The Oct. 3 Historic Lewes Farmers Market will feature an apple celebration demo with Chef Dru Tevis, left, and Lenore Brady of Stag Run Farm.
For the fall season, Historic Lewes Farmers Market will shift its hours and location to 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Lewes Elementary School parking lot, 820 Savannah Road, Lewes.
Markets will continue weekly through Nov. 28, with a final holiday market set for Dec. 5.
In the demonstration tent at 10 a.m., the market will welcome Chef Dru Tevis, owner of Brûlé Bakery, and Lenore Brady of Stag Run Farm. Brady will talk all about apples, and then Tevis will share his recipe and prepare a delicious sticky apple cake.
HLFM local farmers and producers will bring apples, cider, apple cider donuts, apple jams and jellies, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, pumpkins, squash, beans, potatoes, beets, radishes, turnips, napa cabbage, radicchio, arugula, kale, Swiss chard, sweet and hot peppers, hydroponic and field lettuces, microgreens, freeze-dried local fruits and vegetables, breads and pastries, honey, cold-pressed juices, kombucha, coffee, eggs, beef, pork, chicken, lamb, seafood, cut-flower bouquets, plants and much more.
Patrons should note that dogs and other pets (except service animals) are not permitted inside the market area in order to ensure the safety of customers, vendors and volunteers.
Organizers encourage customers to bike or walk to market if able. Entrance for walkers and bikers is off Savannah Road. Parking is available in the school's bus loop parking lot off Sussex Drive, with coned-off accessible parking spaces in the section closest to the market. Customers may also use the Fred Thomas Middle School parking lot. Beebe Healthcare generously allows market customers to park in the hospital's outside parking lot, and there is parking available at George H.P. Smith Park, a short walk away along the path to Lewes Elementary School.
The HLFM is producer-only, so customers are able to buy directly from the farmers who grow the produce.
For a list of all vendors, their contact information and a market map, go to historiclewesfarmersmarket.org. The market processes payments from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, and Women, Infants and Children Program benefits, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Customers may go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.
The HLFM continues its food pantry purchase program. Market customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meat and other food from growers at the market to donate to this program every Saturday. At the end of the market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to local food pantries.
